Tomb Raider App Reviews

Since i had a great time playing, i feel obligated to write a review. I am not a gamer at all. Literally, the last game i played was Final Fantasy X about 3 years ago. I just bought this Macbook Air and i wanted to see what gaming is like on this laptop. I found this game on the App Store and i read a few reviews and thought, “Why not?”. I downloaded this game and i absolutely loved it! I just beat it a couple days ago and I’m defintely wanting to play a sequel (hint hint). One of the main reasons i decided to get this game is because Square Enix helped out with the making of the game. So to me, it had to be good. But overall, this game is absolutely amazing and i don’t regret the purchase at all. I would buy it again and do it all again! That’s how much i loved it. Graphics Voice Acting Combat Thrill Etc. All the aspects of this game is perfect and it WILL keep you on the edge of your seat! :) Coming from a non-gamer, this review should be helpful for anyone lol. Thanks for this amazing gaming experience!

I have a new high end iMac and the game freezes up constantly. When it doesn’t freeze it’s a pretty good game, great graphics and story line but sometimes confusing. Definatly needs some updates.

OMG. I have intel i5 core only but still works perfect. Lags here and there but overall runs smoothly.

LOTS OF FUN!!!!………...MAAAAHHHVELOUS graphics!!! I’m not much of a "gamer", (I only have two others), so I can’t comment on the techy stuff, but Ive found this game lot’s of fun to play!!! Love the graphics. I’ve no doubt that there’s a better graphics thing , to make it more detailed or whatever, but I like it on our iMac just fine. I’ve read that some folks have had a little trouble with the giants, I didn’t have any trouble with the giants, however………………... I got my back end handed to me on the parachute challenge……..…..go figure!!! It’s still a lot of fun!!! Wouldn’t mind some of the rewards/skills/upgrades, unlocked just a little sooner, other than that, no complaints. It’s a fun adventure story, and I like that. (they should’ve used this story line for the movie instead of the one that they did!) If you looking to play it on your Mac (I recommend that you do!!!) just make sure it’s compatible with your particular machine. My iMac is about 3 yrs. old, OS 10.9.4 no Retina display, but excellent graphics just the same. I highly recommend getting a gamepad if you don’t already have one, we have the Sony for PS3 and it works great!!! Most of all…………….JUST HAVE FUN WITH IT!!!!

I’ve been through a lot of games, and this is the best game I have played on a mac. Ran smooth, great story, great semi-open-world environment with tons of hidden items and achievements. The combat is excellent, and there’s plenty of ammo… for the effing bow… but the machine gun is nice when you can find bullets. lol. The best part is, my girlfriend even enjoyed watching. SO MUCH, that I was halfway through the game when she started watching, and she made me start it over when I was done, just so she could see the first part. The storyline was THAT good. Lara is sort of an innocent, first-timer to this world of adventure, and you can see how she gets her start, vs. other tomb raider games where she is a hardened adventurer. I cannot wait for a second one based on this theme.

PLaying this is a little disconcerting at first because it feels like you’re in control of a photorealistic setting. It’s really amazing to see. Game play is fairly simple and the controls are not distracting. Overall, it’s worth the time to play.

LOVE THIS GAME! I grew up with playing Indiana Jones and could not get into Tomb Raider, until this game. They take Lara in a totaly new direction and it is so perfect for her and for people to relate to her. After playing this game for an hour I fell in love with Tomb and now am obsessed with this game. The only problem I have with the game is that there is no multiplayer (there is for PC but not Mac). LOVE THIS GAME! SO WORTH THE PRICE!!!!

can’t open the game. doesn’t show anything except an icon on the dock. Please fix this problem. Then I will happily change this review.

Got it at great value(50% off). Downloading is smooth. The game’s visual effects are stunning! Looks perfect on my Retina MBP. This game definitely fits a "Game Of The Year” title.

Graphics are great. Experienced no bugs during gameplay. Story is good. I was able to play this game for about an hour and could have continued without paying for it. However, the game brought so much enjoyment that I bought my own copy. Been a Tomb Raider fan since the days of the Sega Genesis. Took a little getting used to playing with a keybord and mouse, but after I got the hang of it it was easy. I’m not one to buy games. I bought Falcon 4 back in the day for about $200. I couldn’t get the plane off the ground. Waste of money for me. I tend to try them out first. If they’re worth it, I’ll buy them. With out souding too preachy, buy this one, don’t get it other ways. It’s certainly worth paying for and hopefully will encourage the creators to make others just as good.

Can’t even start it up. I’m on an 8 core Mac Pro running Mavericks 10.9.5. When I hit the play button it comes up with a crash dialog box. I reinstalled OSX (The combo update) with no result. Super annoying!!!!

Just wasted 19 bucks for a game that was not meant to be played on the keyboard. Been cheated before, and will likely be cheated agin. Too bad the ratings can’b be filtered by platform. This may be fun on an x-box, but it truly is a waste of time for the mac keyboard. Please take this as a cold bucket of water where it counts the most.

Just finished it. I never rate apps but this is worth the buy. If you like Far Cry, Grand Theft Auto, or Red Dead Redemption you will love this game. I can’t wait for the sequal. Amazing job making this game!

I recently got this game on my Macbook Pro and when I went to start it it came up with the options. After I pressed play nothing opened and it would not start. I tried redownloading it and it still wont work. I also cannot find any help on the internet.

I’m running this on the very latest MacBook Pro with 2.8 GHz I7 processor with Turbo Boost to 3.8 GHz, 16GM of ram, 1TB flash storage, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB video card. Program ran for awhile beautifully, but since the first time I keep getting “Failed to initialize Direc3D with current settings” error message. If it ran earlier, why not now? I’m giving up on running games on a Mac laptop, no matter how powerful. Waste of money. Update 12/29/2014: The solution for me turned out to be disabling “Use Legacy Open GL on the Advanced tab of the setup menu. If you get the error message cited above, hold down the Command key and open the game. That will bring up the setup screen.Then navigate to the Advanced tab and uncheck the option for Legacy Open GL. That solved the problem with the error message and the game has run beautifully ever since. Great graphics and fun gameplay. I’m thoroughly enjoying the game now. Highly recommend but keep this fix in mind if you encounter the same problem.

Good game had troubles at first but once I turned off the internet before I played it started working :)

This game has a compelling storyline but suffers from an extremely linear format with little ability to explore or interact with the environment except in specific ways dictated by the game makers. There are many scenes which are part movie and not really gameplay where you just push the buttons it says on the screen and with no real indicator why you will succeed or will fail. There appears to be no connection between doing things in these scenes according to the instructions on screen or not doing them. Success is random. The graphics are good but the gameplay is very weak and you just feel like you are jumping through hoops to get the rest of the story without having too much funin the process. I give it three stars because the story is good, but I have difficulty even calling this a video game.

Everytime I try to open it, it never runs. It worked once and played it for a little bit and saw that the game itself was amazing. It didn’t run at all after that.
