Incredibly graphics poor machanics

The graphics were astronomal and never stopped amazing me the storyline was fresh and intriguing and the buildup from weak to strong is what allures you to the game. I’m afraid by the end of the game you are overall exausted by the repeative mini boss battles, the poor machanics, freezing and lagging that continuning on seems like a chore. I wish there would be an auto lock sequence and the button mashing becomes obsolete as it robs you of your desire to play the game. I wanted to like it but the overall gameplay just ruined it for me, I love the story and the graphics would love to see it in an animated feautre film, because the narration and overall humanlike qualities are amazing but just the same game play over and over tires you out. Hope for improvements until then…sorry Lara.

I Have Re-discovered Tomb Raider!

I used to play Tomb Raider on a Mac, using a keyboard, way back in the old days. And I loved it. I made my way through several of the games, until I hit one that seemed too complicated for the keyboard any more. And that’s when I quit. But I recently got the bug to re-visit gaming, and I’m an old-school, old guy. I read some reviews, and I took the leap. I downloaded this from the App Store, and I bought a PlayStation 3 Game Controller, of which I had no knowledge. I also bought the Tomb Raider walk-through book. Well, at first, the game loaded in beautifully, and I wa able to play it using either the keyboard or the game controller. But soon, I wanted to use the game controller exclusively. Trouble was, it didn’t work as it should. The buttons did not do what they should have done. I emailed Feral Interactive’s help folks, who graciously walked me through the set up (it was so easy, I’m embarrassed), and I’m playing, just as I did in the old days. Except now, I’m getting used to a game controller. But, my, how things have changed for the better! Visually stunning compared to the old games, this new game is simply so much beyond anything I’ve played in the old days. I have it set at the easiest level, and it’s tough enough for me. Lara is less pneumatic than she used to be, and that’s good. She is a heroine worth our efforts. I am running Yosemite on a 1year old 27” iMac, and I have YET to encounter ANY problems or glitches. Period. If you are like me, and you yearn to return to gaming as you did in the early Lara Croft days, don’t worry: this is for you!

The Game of the Year

I have been playing this game for 2 days and I have to say it’s simply amazing , I like the story of the game , the graphics , keboard controls and everything is so enjoyable, we all know that mac is not that gaming machine in terms of number of games with stunning graphics and game requirments but this game made it possible, you have to catch that 50% offer as soon as possible. P.S, I am using the Macbook Pro mid-2012 (i7 model) and I keep the graphics on meduim and play the game for maximum 2 hours to not to overload on the macs fan and prevent it from getting overheat…..

Just… Astonishing

Having finished this game for the second time, I can confidently say that it is thoroughly enjoyable. I stormed through most of the battles in a “spray & pray” fashion so they didn’t pose an exceedingly difficult challenge; however, there were some instances where I was forced to switch to a more tactical and stealthy approach beacuse I kept failing as I attempted to continue with the story which, despite being a bit far-fetched, is surprisingly captivating. It’s important to note that this entire game hinges on the plot and consequently offers little more after its conclusion. I went back to search for all the idols and to complete the challanges simply because I had trouble believing that the game really was over, but it was more annoying than fun. Nevertheless, it gave me a chance to explore all the sections of the island more carefully. I would have loved to see even more, but the areas I could visit offered pleanty. Regardless, I’d say that this game is definetly worth playing - it offers intelligent enemies who you can battle in different styles with a variety of weapons, a stimulating plot with some humor and history and several puzzling scenarios which require some thinking, but don’t worry, it won’t hurt. To top it all off, the graphics are beautiful and incredibly immersive… I really can’t describe it otherwise. Perhaps the only element of this game which impressed me even more was the characters. I grew to detest some and became attached to others only to lose them and feel incomplete therafter; I eagerly await the continuation of their story.

Good story, compelling characters

Playing this game was a lot like watching a really good action movie. The characters are all emotionally compelling—even some of the minor characters that you never actually meet have interesting story arcs (you only find pages from their diaries lying around). Lara is especially compelling. I bought into her journey from a young, inexperienced archeologist to a competent, confident warrior-adventurer-sleuth. The voice acting is mostly great (just a few unfortunate choices). The plot is your standard Indiana Jones/Lara Croft fare: A ship carrying an archeological expedition is shipwrecked and the survivors find themselves in mortal peril on a mysterious island… I was reminded a little bit of “Lost,” but the game is more tightly paced and slightly less overblown with the supernatural stuff. There’s also a save-the-princess-in-the-tower element: I enjoyed the variation on the theme, with the female protagonist saving her female friend. I also liked that, although Lara is certainly very pretty, sex or romance doesnt really come up. It’s all about surviving. Lara quickly earns scars, both physical and emotional. Another reviewer complains that the story is too “linear.” Yes, it is linear. In other words, it’s a story. As Lara, you’ve got specific things you need to accomplish. Your friends are in danger and you need to save them. You don’t have time to dilly-dally with a bunch of “open-world exploration." Actually, that’s not true. You have plenty of time: the game will wait for you indefinitely while you raid “optional tombs" and back-track to explore previous locations. (There’s a fast-travel feature that can’t be justified in story terms—it’s a pure video game thing.) There’s a part of me that wishes it wouldn’t wait. Part of the excitement ought to be: can you solve the mystery and save your friends in time?

Crashes on startup

It looks like they never updated this for Yosemite. Had been working fine until all of a sudden it just refuses to open.

you have no idea how amazing this game is...

ok well first off, the storyline is amazing , the graphics are amazing , the weapons , and lara crofts bow and arrow , and how it shoots is spectacular . This game is a must have !! At first I was skeptical about the game , but the 40$ is definitely worthed . Oh but wait ! It’s 15.99 ! Buy Buy Buy Buy Buy ! You wont regret it ! I’ve become a fan of tomb raider , and i will definitely buy all the games they have here for mac that has to do with tomb raider . I’m not sure if Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming to Mac later on , but i will spend whatever money it costs me to buy their new game . Like i said guys , you wont regret buying this game .

Very Pleased

This is my first app review ever, and i felt compelled to write it because i was amazed at how good this game looks. I have the same version on the PS3 and, in my experience and not trying to exaggerate, this game looks better on the Mac, i do have the highest end MacBook Pro, but still, Macs are not recognized for game playing but for video and design, however i am able to play this game without problem and the game’s resolution on the retina display is just awesome. This game is an excelent port by Feral Games, i’m very pleased. I’m running the MBP @ 2.8GHZ, 16GB RAM and Radeon R9 M370X. Again, very pleased.

Does not Run

This game will not run on a 2014 MacBook Pro Retina, no matter what settings I use. This was a complete waste of money!

No inverse when shooting!!!

I use keyboard and mouse for this game. My habit is using inverse Y. The game does have inverse option, but it does NOT work in shooting mode!! WHY doing this?! Hope controller would be better, haven’t tried yet….

just perfect enough

Ive been playing tomb raider ever since it came out from old play station 1 and now I did’nt hesitate to buy and try this new version in my iMac…. I was so amazed about the the transition of graphics. This one is a must have game. It just perfect enough to my preference and likes. Even I have finished this games for several times still, i wanted to play it again and again…. I’m hoping that the new version would come out soon… or add downloadable content or even make it multi players and make it live online!…

Impossible

Imposssible to crack radio puzzle at the top of radio tower. Story is good but has huge lags on 2014 mbp retina. Disappointing.

The game won’t even start. Brand new iMac .

It’s a shame the game won’t even start.

Awesome graphics and story, better with a PS4 controller

I just love this game, I bought a PS4 dual shock controller and is totally awesome, don’t think it twice!!!!

excellent game, but...

I finished this first reboot of TR, I have to say it is a great one, but not perfect. first thing I liked about it is how they portrait the lara as a growing character, not a show-off in the past, I prefer this version of her much better; from a scared little helpless girl to a adventurer to overcome all kinds of adversities and survived eventually. It more focused on story than characters. A lot of games today are focused on just showing how cool the guys are and how hot the girls have been, what they do are just to quickly attract people’s attention and their money, it is a a good practice in a business way but not in great way to make good games. This game differentiate itself from the rest in quite some ways, it developed the story step by step, put the best efforts to make it look graphically beatiful, most importantly, it is a story growing as the characters in it grows, it is not about heroism and fighting goddess but how to survive at the end of each day, not typically another one person saved the world kind of a heroic game or story. Sceneries are beautiful and breath taking, it shows everything in wide angle and in real time, it snows one time in the day and is raining another when you revisit the same location. I prefer the height it shows especially when you use the rip line, it has that similar feeling when you watch the movie "falcon castle” by clint eastwood… censorship is just right, it shows appropriate amount of blood and violence during the actions, it makes it look more realistic to life; censoring too much or too less or making it over the top just does not appeal to me when talking about making good and decent movies, tv series, games, etc. the only drawback to me about this game is just that it lacks replay value compared to the first parasite eve and resident evil series. Once you finished it, there really is not much worths playing through again, please do not make it like a fastfood hamburger, make it into a "delicious meal", people will want to try it again, that is how to make a good game, how to milk the cow, a money making cow, not a cow will be dried out. hope the team made the game keeps the hard work in a good and old way like they used to back in the late 1990’s. I believe the only way to triumph is to differentiate yourself from the majority, be one of many lead the tide; do not copy and paste and follow the flow because it creates nothing new.

camara control

Hey guys the game is great but i have a camara issue im using my ps4 controller on the game but when I move my right analog stick to the left the camara moves to the right and when i move it to the right it goes left is this normal or does anyone have the same issue?

Speechless

This has to be the most enjoyable game i’ve ever played. If there is anything that i want to complain about its the no-controller, which is a persoanl preference. The game itself is great. The story was good, there is a begining, middle and an end, which is really nice. Some of the characters were a bit obvious as to how they will turn out. Graphics were great. Shooting/combat is challanging if you dont use a mouse. One issue i found is that game has no replay value. I understand that there are treasures hidden around the map and its patiences to get, but once you have 60%+ progress, there is no point for you to go back replay the game. But other than that, its a game worth getting.

Great gaming experience with xbox 360 controller

Feral games support xbox 360 controller, which is awesome. I was thinking of getting a xbox one, and now with the controller and amazing graphics, I can turn my mac to a game station (don’t know if it is good or bad). I enjoyed it, and I highly recommend everyone getting a xbox 360 controller (doesn’t support OS X EI Capitan yet, and I am still using Yosemite).

Game Play Disappointing

The gameplay is nothing like the previous Mac Tomb Raider. This is a movie with a few key strokes, chaotic keystrokes, thrown in for good measure. Previous Tomb Raider made sense, was a big puzzle with some short movies. Luckily bought this one at a discount.

it’s good.

I have a 6 mont old macbook pro. The game is amazing whole running. So fun, great action. However the actions get stuck and it makes my laptop lock up. I am going to run it from an external drive to see if it changes
